Program Description

The C.O.P.E. Center provides HIV outreach, education, counseling, and testing to individuals at highest risk for HIV and opiate overdose, including injection drug users and their sexual and drug-using partners; sex industry workers; gay and bisexual men; immigrant populations; and other populations disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS.  The C.O.P.E. Center staff is trained and experienced in offering supportive, non-judgmental assistance to individuals experiencing substance use issues and other high-risk behaviors.

The Center operates under harm reduction principles, which include practical strategies that reduce negative consequences of drug use and other high-risk behaviors. The drop-in center is open various day, evening, and weekend hours.  Drop-in services include referrals for substance abuse treatment and STD testing and treatment.  Risk reduction training and education is available on an individual and group level.  Risk reduction materials are available, including male condoms, female condoms, dental dams, lube, bleach kits, one-shot kits, wound kits, and pipe holders.

The C.O.P.E. Center is a site for a nasal Narcan pilot program, intending to reduce opiate overdose deaths. Narcan is a drug that reverses the effects of opiate overdose.
