Explore "The Science of Trust" in the context of couple relationships, including the physiology of trust and betrayal, and the mathematics of trust and betrayal. Recent research from John Gottman’s laboratory will be reviewed that leads to a precise definition of trust. Dr. Gottman will also talk about a new empirically-based theory of trust, how to create trust in love relationships, and how it is sometimes possible to heal from betrayal. This presentation is geared towards a clinical audience and is based upon Dr. Gottman’s latest books, “The Science of Trust” and “What Makes Love Last? How to Build Trust and Avoid Betrayal.” Dr. John Gottman is world renowned for his work on marital stability and divorce prediction, voted as one of the top 10 Most Influential Therapists of the past quarter century by the Psychotherapy Networker. John Gottman has conducted 40 years of breakthrough research with thousands of couples, has authored or co-authored 40 books, including New York Times Best Seller, The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, and What Makes Love Last? "Leading Change in an Era of Health Reform: The Role of Clinical Mental Health Counselors"
Ms. Hyde was nominated by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in November 2009 as Administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Ms. Hyde has more than 35 years of experience in management and consulting for public health care and human services agencies. She has served as a state mental health director, state human services director, city housing and human services director, as well as CEO of a private non-profit managed behavioral healthcare firm. SAMHSA is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. SAMHSA’s $3.5 billion annual budget supports programs to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America’s communities. SAMHSA is the lead federal agency in implementing all provisions of the Affordable Care Act. |
