The San Diego Conference focuses on multi-disciplinary best-practice efforts to prevent, if possible, or otherwise to investigate, treat, and prosecute child and family maltreatment.
The objective of the San Diego Conference is to develop and enhance professional skills and knowledge in the prevention, recognition, assessment and treatment of all forms of maltreatment including those related to family violence as well as to enhance investigative and legal skills. In-depth issues include support for families, prevention, leadership, policy-making. Translating the latest research into action is also addressed.
Join us for the 29th Annual San Diego International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment presented by the Chadwick Center for Children and Families at Rady Children’s Hospital.
The 2015 conference has been carefully planned and developed to meet the learning and networking needs of professionals working with families experiencing violence. The variety of the program allows you to develop your own learning experience that meets your specific needs. Come and be informed by ten pre-conferences, four plenary sessions, your choice of 140 concurrent sessions, and opportunities for networking and discussion among peers in our beautiful setting right by the San Diego Bay.
Sessions are arranged in tracks of core and advanced medical, trauma therapy, forensic interviewing, investigations, legal, infant and early childhood mental health, research, substance abuse, prevention, child welfare, ethics, current issues, domestic violence, secondary traumatic stress & resilience and global perspectives topics. There is something for everyone.
Some highlights this year are the child homicide investigations training, (a standing annual course), the latest in child brain research and the impact of toxic stress, and an emphasis on infant and early childhood mental health topics. Special sessions have been added this year to focus on secondary traumatic stress and its impact on you and your colleagues. We are placing an emphasis on the ethics of practice; a course that we offer every other year. We have also expanded our one world vision with a more robust international focus throughout the conference. Our expert faculty will impart strong science-based interventions with practical experience and “real” usable solutions.
Over 1,800 professionals from the USA and 35 countries have the opportunity to learn from each other, focus on skills, knowledge, the best practices available, and to interact and form personal and professional relationships.
With every new lesson learned, we hope you come away from this conference replenished, energized with a renewed passion and commitment to work with families to become healthy and free from physical abuse, sexual violence, and neglect.
