What is the NEW 46th ASAM Annual Conference -Innovations in Addiction Medicine and Science?

 


The ASAM Annual Conference is the nation’s premiere event providing the latest innovations and scientific developments in Addiction Medicine.  The annual conference has been re-named (formerly the ASAM Medical-Scientific Conference, nicknamed Med-Sci) to reflect some exciting new changes in format and structure to provide learning in a more interactive, casual and fun environment.  

Join the largest gathering of addiction physicians, psychiatrists, clinicians, researchers and academicians who treat and help patients with substance use disorders in Austin, TX on April 23 – 26, 2015.  Meeting highlights include; Symposia, Workshops, Poster Sessions, Special Focus Sessions and New Fun Events designed to allow more casual learning and networking.  Participate in the front-running conference that specializes in addiction medicine;

  • Utilize and promote evidence-based approaches for clinical treatment of substance abuse disorders. 
  • Recognize issues addressed in treating individuals in diverse and special populations or with special physical, health and mental illnesses. 
  • Identify and diagnose substance use disorders in clinical populations. 
  • Describe the development of new science and treatments in addiction medicine.

  • An ASAM member and non-members, physicians, psychiatrists, clinicians, researchers, counselors, students, academicians, and other health care professionals dedicated to increasing access and improving the quality of addiction treatment and care. 
  • A physician currently practicing in the field of addiction medicine and wanting to learn the latest scientific information available in addiction medicine. 
  • A practicing physician in primary care or another specialty field seeking to learn more about addiction medicine. 
  • An early-career physician, investigator, researcher or health care professional with a specialty in addiction medicine. 
  • Professionals working with special and diverse patient populations such as military and other organizations.

Focus Sessions

Focus Sessions are concentrated presentations of clinical or scientific material designed to give learners an in-depth understanding of a specific topic.  Suggestions include diagnostic approaches and specialized treatment areas, or translating research findings into practical clinical terms.  While typically presented in a structured didactic format, creative teaching methods are also encouraged and presenters should be sure to include time for questions.


Workshop Sessions

Workshops offer an interactive format that deal with topics and issues best handled informally in give-and-take sessions of small groups. Workshops offer participants an opportunity for hands-on experience, utilizing cases and viewing of demonstrations, with an emphasis on audience participation in discussions, skill-building exercise, etc.  Workshops should include the development of special skills, particular diagnostic or treatment problems, or other issues requiring the active exchange of ideas.


Poster Presentations

Poster Presentations offer an opportunity to share research interests and ideas. Presenters are required to prepare physical and electronic posters, set them up and attend their poster during a designated times.  ASAM encourages everyone and especially young investigators to submit abstracts for posters.


Symposium Sessions

Symposium presentations are special sessions developed by invited experts in the field of addiction medicine and the Annual Conference Program Committee, including specialized presentations presented by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
