Description

WHAT: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy PRESENTER: Dr. Rosa West, Meridian Behavioral Health DATE: Thursday, September 15, 2011 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., EST ABOUT THIS WEBINAR: Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, not external things, like people, situations, and events. It is an empirically-based approach based on the cognitive model of emotional response. CBT emphasizes a sound therapeutic relationship, collaboration between therapist and client, structure/directives, and homework as a central feature. Known for fostering rapid results within a time-limited structure, CBT leads to positive change in feeling/behavior through re-structuring of our thinking. ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Rosa West, Ph.D. is currently Vice President of Specialty Programs & New Initiatives for Meridian Behavioral Healthcare, which provides mental health and substance abuse treatment and ancillary services in 10 North Florida counties. Dr. West has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Florida and a Master's and Doctoral Degree from the University of Florida in Counselor Education, specializing in Marriage & Family Counseling. She is a Licensed Mental Health Clinician and a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in the state of Florida and has worked in the field for over 10 years with expertise in family/couples therapy, co-occurring disorder treatment, specialized services for women & minorities, and utilization of process improvement tools.
