The "2015 International Conference on Global Health: Prevention and Treatment of Substance Abuse and HIV" is the second meeting of the "International Conference Series to Promote Global Health", focusing on prevention and treatment of substance abuse and HIV in Asia and the Pacific Islands (API).
The conference will include a full-day plenary and poster session with presentations from world-renowned experts, with two subsequent full days of intensive training sessions. The conference sessions will cover the current status of drug abuse and HIV in Asian countries as reported by their representatives, strategies for meeting challenges posed by these problems, and international collaborative work on the prevention and treatment of substance use and HIV.
The conference will be held on April 22-24, 2015, in Hangzhou, China. It is organized by UCLA in partnership with the planning committee, Zhejiang University, and other collaborators. We welcome to the conference people working in all fields related to substance use disorders and HIV, including junior and senior researchers, clinicians and providers, and other stakeholders (both governmental and non-governmental). We particularly encourage researchers and students from underrepresented populations to attend.
Purpose of the conference
The goal of this conference is to create a forum in which the most up-to-date research and research methodologies regarding substance abuse and HIV among Asian and Pacific Island (API) populations will be shared among researchers, clinicians, policymakers and other collaborators with the intent of developing future research plans that can best impact policy.
The conference specifically aims to:
- Establish an international network for future collaboration in substance abuse research and prevention/treatment programs,
- Present most current research findings on substance use disorders, HIV/AIDS and related topics,
- Provide intensive learning/training experiences to impart knowledge on methodological tools necessary for the conceptualization, implementation and analysis of research,
- Provide training workshops for local providers in treatment and prevention approaches and practices.
The three-day conference will be comprised of a keynote presentation and thematic panels of speakers in plenary sessions within a conference format. Speakers invited to give the keynote address include: Dr. Nora Volkow (Director of National Institute on Drug Abuse, USA), Dr. David Ho (Scientific Director, CEO of Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center, USA) and Dr. Lanjuan Li (Director, State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, Zhejiang University, China). Renowned scientists have been invited to speak. Please see conference program for the specific topics and speakers.
Abstract Submission: Abstract submission is highly encouraged for all conference participants. Accepted abstracts will be included in a pre-conference special issue of the Journal of Neuroimmune Pharmacology. Authors of selected abstracts will be invited to give an oral presentation at the conference. Topics include those related to the fields of substance abuse and HIV, preferably in a global context.
